About

Meet TarRIn

I’m Tarrin — an online powerlifting and nutrition coach working primarily on a one-to-one basis with lifters of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Alongside my online coaching work, I currently coach the Northumbria University Powerlifting Team, and previously coached Newcastle University Powerlifting Team. University powerlifting is where my coaching journey really began — supporting lifters with technical analysis, programming, and competition-day preparation — and it shaped the way I approach coaching to this day.

Coaching Experience & Background

I’ve been lifting for over seven years and coaching, in some capacity, for around five years. During that time, I’ve worked with:

  • Complete beginners stepping under a barbell for the first time

  • Recreational lifters training around busy lives

  • Competitive powerlifters

  • International-level athletes and medalists

I compete in British Powerlifting (IPF) and hold:

  • British Powerlifting Level 2 Coaching Certification

  • National Referee status within British Powerlifting

This combination of athlete experience, coaching practice, and federation involvement gives me a well-rounded perspective on both performance and the realities of competition.

Powerlifting Coaching Philosophy

My approach to powerlifting coaching is simple: meet the lifter where they are.

Not everyone’s goal is to be nationally competitive — and that’s absolutely fine. Powerlifting should fit into your life, not dominate it. Training needs to align with your goals, your schedule, and your priorities outside the gym.

One principle underpins everything I do: if you’re not enjoying your training, that’s the first thing we address. Enjoyment drives consistency, and consistency is what leads to long-term progress.

Coaching is collaborative. We focus on:

  • Sustainable programming

  • Technical development that makes sense for your body

  • Long-term progress rather than short-term fixes

  • Supporting performance without sacrificing enjoyment

Nutrition Coaching Approach

My nutrition coaching mirrors my approach to training.

I focus on small, iterative changes over time rather than chasing perfection from day one. Sustainability, lifestyle, and long-term progress always come first.

I generally avoid rigid meal plans. In my experience, they don’t equip clients with the skills they need to manage their own nutrition confidently. Instead, I use:

  • Collaborative macro planning

  • Habit-based approaches

  • Education that helps clients understand why we’re doing what we’re doing

The goal isn’t just short-term results — it’s giving you tools you can use long after coaching ends.

Why I Coach

When I first started coaching, I realised I had a real knack for teaching — I just didn’t yet know where to channel it. Coaching gave me that outlet.

I take genuine joy in seeing athletes progress, gain confidence, and succeed on their own terms, whether that’s hitting a first competition total, qualifying for a major championship, or simply enjoying training again.

Their legs are shaved, and they are wearing different footwear—one with Crocs and the other with sneakers. Behind them is a backdrop with logos and the words 'Scottish Powerlifting' and 'Scottish Junior Champion,' indicating a competition setting.
